Barack Obama has made me want to boycott America

The special relationship is over. We gave America years of unwavering support after September 11. And now we see how Barack Obama’s administration repays us.

First, Obama declared that America was “neutral” over the sovereignty of the Falklands, ignoring the clear wishes of the islands’ population. And, second, his Assistant Secretary of State, Philip Crowley, snubbed Britain by failing to use their proper name and instead calling them the “Malvinas”.

I don’t know where Obama learned about diplomacy, but his stinks. I’m normally pro-American, but Mr Obama’s seeming support for Argentinian aggressors, who have no legitimate claim over the Falklands, is gratuitously offensive. So from today, I’m boycotting America as a tourist destination. This summer, I’ll be going to France, not California.

Let me be clear: I’m not normally in favour of boycotts, and I love the American people. I holiday in their country regularly, and hate the tedious snobby sneers against the United States. But the American people chose to elect an idiot who seems hell bent on insulting their allies, and something must be done to stop Obama’s reckless foreign policy, before he does the dirty on his allies on every issue.

If our American friends want to stop Obama shredding the respect the rest of the planet has towards America, they need to stop Obama’s destructive policies – and fast.

COMMENTS

Please remember that Obama only received 52% of the vote AFTER spending over $1 BILLION and having 98% of the media completely in the tank for him. Let’s not forget all the coverage of adoring Europeans and polling in the UK showing boundless support.

First we are going to throw out the Democrat majorities in the House and Senate who have led the World into economic destruction since taking power in 2006 and then we’re going to boot out the Empty Suit on his sorry Marxist Muslim ass.

I think they’ve made it clear they want to treat one of their greatest allies like any other country, though, so sod ‘em.

But don’t go to France, the people smell.

They are resourceful and clever; and indeed, I take pride in my membership of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Unhappily, they have allowed themselves to be sufficently taken in to vote for this third-rate socialist pipsqueak with an oversize chip on his shoulder.

Having seen my compatriots thrice return one of the worst governments ever to hold office in a purportedly democratic nation (and to remain yet in some doubt as to their resolve emphatically to eject them the fourth time around), I have to say that we are as a nation in no position to offer judgments. My feelings towards the Americans must – in common charity – be one of sympathetic pity.

Let us hope that our trans-Atlantic cousins can limit the damage (at least they can clip his wings a little come the mid-term elections in November), and wish them well in their enterprise. In the meantime, let us set our own house in order, and dispose of these neo-Stalinist deadlegs and their grubby little scumbag leader Brown. Son of the manse meets Hawaiian Mau-Mau? You’ve touched on the main problem–it isn’t just a problem with the USA, its an epidemic of corrupt, statist governing classes throughout the West who don’t believe in defending Western values anymore. And the entrenched bureacracies and enabling media make it incredibly difficult to dislodge the incumbents.

I’m praying that we can at least clip Obama’s wings in November.

This is how wars get started, utterly preventable wars.

We have Joe Biden in Israel, working on yet one more solution for a ‘Sovereign Palestinian State’, when the Arabs who live in those territories cannot seem to decide what that would look like, and in the South Atlantic, we have the Falklands, whose inhabitants have made unmistakeably clear that they are and wish to remain, as they always have been, British.

Those are the people Obama wishes to throw under the geopolitical bus.

c7777 on Mar 11th, 2010 at 4:02 pm Report commentAs an American Conservative, I’ve always loved the UK; you’ve always had our back, always… and I can’t stand that my President has turned his back on the UK regarding the Falklands.

But it was strange to me how openly he was received and supported by the British and European people in 2008. Lots of people in the US are enamored with the opinions that the British and Europeans have of us and many British and Europeans supported his cause.

When the 2012 election season rolls around remember that the American President turned his back on the UK, not the American People, and we will be fixing this.

Siggs on Mar 11th, 2010 at 4:02 pm Report commentCherokee
Although I accept your point, this is hardly unexpected behaviour from Obarmy, I havent seen anyone (important) countermand it.

The closest I’ve seen is Fox noting that the UK is rather annoyed.
No potential challengers for the presidency in the next race have said a word, or anyone contesting the next congressionals either.

DominicJ on Mar 11th, 2010 at 4:27 pm Report commentI don’t think it is Obama who is the idiot.

America always expressed its neutrality over the Falklands, even under Reagan.

You confuse what is said overtly with what goes on behind the scenes.

What other destructive policies is this writer talking about?

gary4 on Mar 11th, 2010 at 4:27 pm Report commentI won’t boycott the USA, but we do know now that we have no currency with the Obarmy administration. I have never subscribed to the idea of a “special relationship” but did think we were friends. The episode has highlighted that the White House is clueless on foreign policy – mind you so is the British Government.

Perhaps we should suggest that Fiji makes a claim for the Hawaiian islands. British Foreign Secretary says UK is neutral on the issue. It doesn’t matter that the people are, and want to remain, American. Who cares? Obviously not the Special One. Perhaps we would be neutral if Mexico wanted Texas back?

xbat – difficult to make out your reasoning.

The British have been in the Falklands since long before Argentina existed as a country – we didn’t kick anyone out. The people there wish to remain British, and under UN law that is the end of the matter. May I suggest a referendum for the Islanders. If they vote to be ruled by Argentina – then it should be considered.

The President should realise that Mexico has a better claim on Texas than Argentina will ever have for the Malvinas.

Badger on Mar 11th, 2010 at 4:36 pm Report commentTalk of any kind of “special relationship” is in my opinion naive. It never existed, except as a matter of expedience & political spin.
A lot was made of Thatcher and Reagans’ special relationship, but where was the US during the Falklands war of the 80’s? Staying carefully neutral, possibly even leaning towards the Argentinian side, that’s where!

So why is it a surprise that the current US administration is taking the same position? Don’t get me wrong I don’t support their stance, the Falklands have been a British territory for longer than Argentina has existed as a country, and the current population clearly identify themselves as British.

One of the first things Obama did on assuming the presidency was to return a bust of Winston Churchill that had been in the Oval Office a long time. That disrespectful move should have alerted Brits as to what The Great Spreader thought about them. The irony is rather stark considering how popular Obama was with the Brits before the election. Now that Obama is grinding his heel in their faces, they might think differently.

We Americans should ask the author, via an open letter in the Telegraph, that if we start an armed uprising against Obama and his fascist thugs in Washington, will the Brits send in troops to help us overthrow these tyrants?

We helped save England’s ass from the fascists in WWII, so now it is time for them to return the favor.

We need to actively start organizing militias and prepare for civil war... Obama must be stopped. Each day that passes proves that the only way we will rid ourselves of these tyrants is through the barrel of a gun.

It truly is becoming crystal clear that this fascist cabal is a malignancy that will NEVER surrender power. I seriously doubt we shall make it to the 2012 elections. If in one year these fascist pigs have done so much damage to us domestically and abroad, then think what we shall have by 2012.

No. No election is going to stop these people. Only the force of arms... and the sooner Americans come to accept this truth and act upon it, then the sooner we will be able to restore our republic.

You know, I completely understand how you feel; and while I don't "boycott America", I'm doing my part to boycott anything to do with "unions". "Unionization" is where this country is headed, and "unionization" is nothing more than one-size-fits-all socialism.

I would hope that "Americanism" overcomes "unionism" and the union members start quitting the unions in droves.

They probably won't so we need to just stop buying products from union plants until they go out of business. Make being a "union member" taboo and they will dry up under their own weight.

Now, back to England...I will not apologize for brack obama, in fact, you can have him if you want him...hardly anyone here wants him.

America has always been allies with England - at least as far back as I can remember and I'm 64 years old. What obama did concerning the gifts, and returning the bust, was insulting and unforgiveable...he is an embarassment to all Americans.

Wish us well in sending this guy down the road in 2012.

This says it all about our image overseas and domestic. The money quote:

A majority of Americans say the United States is less respected in the world than it was two years ago and think President Obama and other Democrats fall short of Republicans on the issue of national security, a new poll finds.
The Democracy Corps-Third Way survey released Monday finds that by a 10-point margin -- 51 percent to 41 percent -- Americans think the standing of the U.S. dropped during the first 13 months of Mr. Obama's presidency.

The polling firm is James Carville's firm, definitely NOT a right-leaning organization! Seems that Americans - and now Europeans - long for the "cowboy diplomacy" of George W. Bush. Obama's hurt our standing, not helped it...

I’m normally pro-American, but Mr Obama’s seeming support for Argentinian aggressors, who have no legitimate claim over the Falklands, is gratuitously offensive.
I think one can remain pro-American but anti-Osama. We do it everyday :-)

Maybe we can send 0bama to the U.K. to be their king. He certainly thinks he’s ours.
