Russian Navy Captures and Destroys a Pirate Mothership

Somehow, I just don't think the Russians are sympathetic to the Somali pirates, even if the pirates are just "poor misunderstood fishermen fallen on hard times."

Memo to Somali pirates: Stay away from the Russians.

It sounds like the major shippers of the world should just get together and hire the Russian navy to handle the Somali pirate problem. The Russians are good at it and could probably use the extra revenue.

The Russians simply have the will to do this, and the western nations don’t. It’s not so hard, and surprisingly, it’s legal treatment of pirates.

The best line I’ve heard in years was about how all of the Somali pirates who were captured “regrettably died”.

Am I the only one who is a little dismayed that I agree with the Russians and am convinced that my own government wouldn’t come close to taking those steps?

I remember readin this article a few days ago (no source, can’t remember where) about how the russians had caught up with a pirate vessel at sea. They torched the ship and set all the crew in a life-boat “but sadly, they never made it to shore”. Even money that Ivan used them for target practice, those boys don’t fool around.

When I watched the video one thing stuck out like a sore thumb. There were a lot of “Non-Somalian” looking guys on that boat. I’m thinking that this whole “Pirate” business is just a way to fund global jihad.

Russians know how to deal with jihadis...

AFAIK, only the Russian and Indian Navies have sunk a mothership.

And one thing that struck me; some of the pirates don’t seem to have the negroid features of Somalis - one in the opening frame looks Pakistani or South Asian, and the injured one looks Arab.

I read recently that the Russians had captured a big Somali pirate ship and that the pirates who were captured had all “regrettably died”. I am not 100% sure this video is the same ship.

No, your mixing it up with another incident. Two weeks ago the pirates hijacked a Russian oil tanker—that was Liberian flagged, named the Moscow University. The Russian Navy re-captured it, and set the pirates adrift in the lifeboat without navigational equipment. And those pirates, regretably, all died.

I don’t think that’s a problem. After all, remember Munity on the Bounty? True story, Mr Christian did the same to Captain Bligh who managed to navigate thousands of miles in a smaller boat. The Somali Pirates just suck at navigation.

Now what happened to the pirates in THIS video... Well, I hope it is a similar fate.

Yes, I agree there are probably two separate incidences. I knew about the pirates who hijacked the oil tanker and their fate.
I was interested in the fate of these pirates that were captured on this mother ship?
