CantoPop veteran Tai See-chung dies

Tai See-chung, the mentor of many superstars in Hong Kong, died on Sunday.

His daughter Wan-wai said the venerated music educator died of a heart attack at 8.35am. He was 69.

Tai was crowned the 'Godfather of Superstars' for mentoring a long list of artistes in the entertainment industry.

He trained most of his students into professional and led them to recording careers with big companies.

Tai moved from China to Hong Kong in the 60s to join the Shaw Brothers Studio as a playback singer.

Then, he pursued his music studies in Japan and became a singing coach upon returning home.

His first student was Chang Min Man, who became famous after singing the song I AM Chinese in 1978.

His other students include Anita Mui, Leon Lai, Faye Wong, Aaron Kwok, Nicholas Tse, Raymond Lam, Andy Lau and Tony Leung.
